II. Findings: Osteoarthritis

  1. Imaging with Osteophytes and subchondral sclerosis
  2. Joint effusion
  3. Joint Stiffness that worsens with activity and is better with rest
  4. Crepitation on range of motion
  5. Joint-line tenderness
  6. Decreased range of motion (esp. external rotation and abduction)

III. Findings: Rheumatoid Arthritis

  1. Joint effusion
  2. Morning stiffness that improves with activity
  3. Joint may be warm and erythematous
  4. Crepitation on range of motion
  5. Imaging with joint space narrowing and marginal joint space erosions

IV. Findings: Other Rheumatologic Conditions

  1. Polymyalgia Rheumatica (affects Shoulder in 95% of cases)
    1. Bilateral Shoulder ache and stiffness (with or without pelvic girdle involvement)
  2. Pseudogout
  3. Cervical Spondylosis (referred pain)
  4. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

V. Findings: Other Conditions

  2. Labral Tear
    1. Clunking sound or Sensation on overhead motion
  3. Septic Arthritis
    1. Joint with erythema and warmth
  4. Rotator Cuff Injury
    1. Shoulder Pain at night
    2. Imaging may demonstrate joint space narrowing
  5. Cervical Disc Disease with radiculopathy into Shoulder
    1. Reduced neck range of motion
    2. Pain radiates into arm distal to Shoulder
  6. Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)
    1. Decreased range of motion (esp. external rotation and abduction)
    2. Shoulder Imaging normal
