Mental Nerve BlockAka: Chin Regional Block, Regional Anesthesia for the Anterior Mandible
- Indication
- Regional anesthesia for anterior mandible and chin
- Physiology: Landmarks for Mental Nerve
- Exits mandible at mental foramen
- Located between upper and lower border of mandible
- Overlies medial jaw
- Centered below midline of orbit
- Line drawn through supraorbital, infraorbital foramen
- Technique: Mental nerve block
- Locate mental foramen as above
- Insert needle
- Insert 1.5 cm posterolateral to mental foramen
- Direct needle toward mental foramen
- Avoid approaching orbit
- Infiltrate at mental foramen
- Use 2-3 cc of 1% Lidocaine
- Inject just above bone level
- Redirect needle if Paresthesias or sharp pain
