Mental Nerve BlockAka: Chin Regional Block, Regional Anesthesia for the Anterior Mandible

    1. Regional anesthesia for anterior mandible and chin
  2. Physiology: Landmarks for Mental Nerve
    1. Exits mandible at mental foramen
    2. Located between upper and lower border of mandible
    3. Overlies medial jaw
      1. Centered below midline of orbit
      2. Line drawn through supraorbital, infraorbital foramen
  3. Technique: Mental nerve block
    1. Locate mental foramen as above
    2. Insert needle
      1. Insert 1.5 cm posterolateral to mental foramen
      2. Direct needle toward mental foramen
      3. Avoid approaching orbit
    3. Infiltrate at mental foramen
      1. Use 2-3 cc of 1% Lidocaine
      2. Inject just above bone level
      3. Redirect needle if Paresthesias or sharp pain
