II. Epidemiology

  1. Ages 8-14 years old (skeletally immature)
  2. Typically occurs in bike and Downhill Skiing

III. Mechanism

  1. Rare avulsion Fractures involving the ACL or PCL insertions

IV. Imaging

  1. Knee XRay
    1. Tibial Spine Avulsion Fracture typically seen on plain xray AP view
  2. MRI Knee
    1. Confirms avulsion Fracture
    2. Identifies associated injuries (e.g. ACL Tear, PCL Tear)

V. Management

  1. Knee Immobilizer
  2. Non-weight bearing
  3. Semi-urgent orthopedic Consultation
    1. Most will require surgical repair
