- Same action to Natural Penicillins
- Prevents Penicillinase hydrolysis of Beta lactam ring

- Alteration of Bacterial cell wall
V. Mechanism: Activity Spectrum
- Same as for Natural Penicillins
VI. Preparations: Oral
- Directions
- Take on an empty Stomach
- Take more than 1 hour before or two hours after food
- Cloxacillin (Cloxapen) 250-500 mg PO qid
- Dicloxacillin (Dynapen)
- Adult: 125 to 500 mg PO qid
- Child: 12.5 to 25 mg/kg/day PO divided qid
VII. Preparations: Parenteral
- Methicillin (Staphcillin)
- Nafcillin (Nafcil, Unipen)
- Adult: 1 to 2 grams IM or IV every 4 hours
- Child: 50 to 200 mg/kg/day divided every 4 to 6 hours
- Oxacillin (Bactocill)
- Adult: 1 to 2 grams IM or IV every 4 to 6 hours
VIII. Adverse effects
- Nephritis (Methicillin)
- Venous inflammation (Nafcillin)
