Mechanism
1. Indicator of fecal Leukocyte activity
Protocol
1. Calprotectin is stable in stool samples at room temperature for up to 1 week
Interpretation
1. Negative test suggests diagnoses other than Inflammatory Bowel Disease are more likely
2. Positive test requires Colonoscopy for confirmation
Efficacy: Diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
1. Test Sensitivity: 93%
2. Test Specificity
  1. Adults: 96%
  2. Children and Adolescents: 76%
