Premedication for Allergy PreventionAka: Medication Allergy Prophylaxis

Indications: Higher risk of serious Allergic Reaction
1. Antitoxin use (risk of Serum Sickness)
2. Patients with history of multiple drug sensitivities
Preparation
1. Discuss risks and benefits with patient
2. Be prepared to treat Anaphylaxis
Protocol: Administer prior to suspected medication
1. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 1 mg/kg up to 50 mg IV
2. Cimetidine (Tagamet) 6 mg/kg IV up to 300 mg IV
