    2. Bilateral in 15% of cases
  2. Epididymitis complication
  3. Tuberculosis
  4. Syphilis
  5. Granulomatous Orchitis
    1. Autoimmune response to spermatazoa in older men

III. Symptoms

  1. Sudden onset of Testicular Pain
  2. High fever
  3. Nausea or Vomiting

IV. Signs

  1. Enlarged Testis
  2. Indurated and tender on testicular palpation

V. Labs: Urinalysis

VI. Management

  1. Relative rest
  2. Scrotal support
  3. Local Ice Therapy
  4. NSAIDs
  5. Specific antimicrobial therapy where indicated

VII. Prognosis

  1. Mumps Orchitis confers 4% risk of sterility
  2. Testes may become atrophic
  3. Androgenic function usually maintained

Definition (NCI) Inflammation of one or both testes due to viral or bacterial infections. Signs and symptoms include enlargement or tenderness of the affected testis, inguinal lymphadenopathy, blood in the semen, and pain during urination, intercourse, or ejaculation.
