      3. Diosgenin not converted to Progesterone in humans
      4. Diosgenin converted in labs to Progesterone
  2. Current Uses
    1. Premenstrual Syndrome
    2. Menopausal symptoms
    3. Osteoporosis
  3. Dosing: Natural Progesterone cream (not Yam extract)
    1. Preparation: 400 mg per ounce
    2. Apply 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon to vagina per day
  4. Efficacy
    1. Yams
      1. Yam extract has no Progesterone activity in humans
      2. Yam Estrogen levels are not high enough for benefit
    2. Natural Progesterone derived from Diosgenin
      1. May relieve some post-menopausal symptoms
      2. Minimal or no benefit in Osteoporosis
  5. Adverse Effects
    1. Yams are an Unopposed Estrogen source
      1. Risk of Endometrial Cancer
      2. May require Endometrial Biopsy
