Vrozené při poruše nervových buněk ve stěně střeva s poruchou vyprazdňování (megacolon congenitum, Hirschsprungova nemoc), nebo získané v důsledku některých střevních chorob, např. jako závažná komplikace ulcerózní kolitidy (toxické m.).
