Structure of chorda tympani (C0008483)

Definition (MSH) A branch of the facial (7th cranial) nerve which passes through the middle ear and continues through the petrotympanic fissure. The chorda tympani nerve carries taste sensation from the anterior two-thirds of the tongue and conveys parasympathetic efferents to the salivary glands.
Definition (CSP) branch which leaves the facial (intermediate) nerve in the facial canal and enters the tympanic cavity; composed of visceral sensory fibers for taste from the anterior of the tongue and preganglionic parasympathetic fibers from the superior salivatory nucleus.
