II. Preparations

  1. Cryoprecipitate
    1. Derived from thawing Fresh Frozen Plasma and collecting precipitate
    2. Contains high concentrations of Factor VIII and Fibrinogen

III. Indications: Adults

  1. Post-cardiac surgery Hemorrhage (or other postoperative bleeding)
  2. Massive Hemorrhage or transfusion

IV. Indications: Newborns

  1. Factor VIII Deficiency (if recombinant factor VIII not available)
  2. Von Willebrand Disease (if recombinant factors not available)
  3. Factor XIII deficiency
  4. Congenital Dysfibrinogenemia
  5. Congenital Fibrinogen deficiency

V. Labs

  1. Fibrinogen
    1. Expect one unit to raise Fibrinogen 5-10 mg/dl
    2. Goal Fibrinogen >100 mg/dl

VI. Dosing

  1. Adults: 10 units Cryoprecipitate (typical)
  2. Newborn: variable dosing starting from 2 ml/kg
