    1. Enlarged prostate <30 grams and
    2. Bladder outlet obstruction at the bladder neck
  2. Technique
    1. Regional or general anesthesia
    2. Incisions made along side walls of urethra
    3. Opens bladder neck and prostatic urethra
  3. Efficacy
    1. Initial reports suggested equivalent results to TURP
      1. Obstructive symptoms relieved
      2. Improved urine flow
    2. Later analysis suggests may not be as effective as TURP
      1. Urodynamic measurements improved less
      2. Slightly higher failure rate

  4. Complications
    1. Impotence: 2%
    2. Retrograde ejaculation: 15% (less likely than in TURP)
    3. Incontinence: 1%
    4. Blood loss requiring Transfusion: 1%
