- Indications: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
- Enlarged prostate <30 grams and
- Bladder outlet obstruction at the bladder neck
- Technique
- Regional or general anesthesia
- Incisions made along side walls of urethra
- Opens bladder neck and prostatic urethra
- Efficacy
- Initial reports suggested equivalent results to TURP
- Obstructive symptoms relieved
- Improved urine flow
- Later analysis suggests may not be as effective as TURP
- Urodynamic measurements improved less
- Slightly higher failure rate

- Complications
- Impotence: 2%
- Retrograde ejaculation: 15% (less likely than in TURP)
- Incontinence: 1%
