Indication
1. Confirmation of proteiunuria on Urine Protein dipstick
Efficacy
1. Highly sensitive for Urine Protein
2. Detects light chain proteins
Technique
1. Urine mixed with 3% to 5% Sulfosalicylic Acid (SSA)
2. Urine turbidity measured with photometer
3. Variation in results may be as much as 20%
Positive Test
1. See Proteinuria
False positive causes
1. Radiographic contrast agents (in last 3 days)
2. Tolbutamide
3. Penicillins
4. Sulfisoxazole
Negative Test
1. False Proteinuria
2. Renal Tubules not reabsorbing
