III. Technique

  1. Patient stands
  2. Examiner taps the long saphenous vein at the level of the medial knee
  3. Examiner palpates over saphenofemoral junction
    1. Medial thigh, just below the inguinal ligament
    2. Examiner feels for palpably transmitted impulse (positive test)

IV. Interpretation: Positive Test

  1. Palpable impulse indicates valve incompetence along the long saphenous vein
