II. Technique

  1. Patient lies at rest, supine with both hip and knee extended
  2. Examiner places one hand at the mid-thigh and the other at the calf
  3. Examiner passively rotates the entire leg and hip both internally and externally

III. Interpretation

  1. Positive if restricted movement or pain on passive hip rotation
  2. Causes of positive test
    1. Piriformis Syndrome
    2. Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE)
    3. Hip Fracture
