Knee Bulge Sign

Indication
1. Evaluation for small knee joint effusion
Technique
1. Examiner uses ball of hand over medial knee
  1. Milk fluid distally from suprapatellar pouch
  2. Repeat several times
2. Press behind patella lateral margin
  1. Swelling reappears in knee joint effusion
Interpretation: Positive test implies effusion
1. Knee Effusion may be detected at 10-15 cc of fluid
