    1. Evaluation for Premature Rupture of Membranes
  3. Technique
    1. Obtain fluid for exam (usually after Vaginal Pooling)
    2. Place sample on glass slide
    3. Allow sample to air dry for 10 minutes
  4. Interpretation
    1. Slide shows ferning pattern under microscopy
  5. Efficacy
    1. Accuracy for amniotic fluid: 84 to 100%
    2. Test Sensitivity: 100% when allowed to dry 10 minutes
  6. Differential Diagnosis: False positive for ferning
