Succussion Splash

Indication
1. Diagnosis of HydroPneumothorax (Bronchopleural Fistula)
Pathophysiology
1. Pleural Fluid in absence of Pneumothorax is silent
2. In hydroPneumothorax, chest contains air and fluid
  1. When patient moves, splash sound is audible
Technique
1. Examiner auscultates lungs while:
  1. Patient moves OR
  2. Assistant grasps patients shoulders and shakes
Differential Diagnosis of splash sound auscultated
1. Bronchopleural Fistula
2. Diaphragmatic Hernia
