- Step 1: Advanced Preparation
- Assign clinician responsible for telling the patient
- Review patient's case and therapeutic options
- Rehearse your plan to deliver the bad news
- Step 2: Build a therapeutic environment
- Allocate adequate time in suitable, quiet environment
- Invite participants patient would like present
- Participants introduce themselves
- Be sensitive to patient's preferences (touch, humor)
