  1. Most reliable indicator other than Bone Marrow
2. Acute phase reactant

1. Range: 18-300 ng/ml
Increased
1. Inflammatory states
2. Hyperthyroidism
3. Liver disease (necrotic hepatocytes)
4. Hodgkin's Lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
5. Leukemia
6. Breast Cancer
7. Neuroblastomas
8. Hemochromatosis
9. Iron Supplementation
10. Still's Disease (very high, ferritin >5000)
Decreased
1. Iron Deficiency Anemia
