- Begins within 2 years (usually <12 months) of Menarche
- Pathophysiology
- Uterine hyperactivity
- Increased myometrial resting tone >10 mmHg
- Increased contractile myometrial prEssure >120 mmHg
- Increased frequency of uterine contractions
- Dysrhythmia of uterine contractions
- Increase in enzyme Prostaglandin Synthetase
- Increased prostaglandins result in vasoconstriction
- Uterine Hypoxia (uterine Angina)

- Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)
- Ibuprofen (Motrin) 400 to 800 mg PO tid to qid
- Naproxen (Naprosyn) 500 mg PO bid
- Mefenamic acid (Ponstel) 500 mg PO tid
- Oral Contraceptives
- Calcium Channel Blocker
