- Open Angle Glaucoma
- Patients unable to tolerate Beta Blocker or as adjunct
- Mechanism
- Inhibits bicarbonate formation in the ciliary body
- Results in decreased aqueous production
- Preparations
- Topical
- Dorzolamide (Trusopt) 2%, 1 drop tid
- Brinzolamide (Azopt) 1%, 1 drop tid
- Systemic
- Acetazolamide (Diamox)
- Methazolamide (Neptazane)
- Adverse Effects
- Topical is well tolerated (contrast with oral)
- Systemic
- Paresthesias in hands and face
- Malaise, anorexia, and severe weight loss
- Hypokalemia
- Nephrolithiasis
