  1. Erythromycin gel, solution or ointment 2%
  2. Erythromycin with Benzoyl Peroxide gel (Benzamycin) 3%/5%

IV. Directions

  1. Apply to clean skin bid morning & evening
  2. Often used with a Comedolytic (e.g. Retin A)

V. Adverse Effects

  1. Usually well-tolerated
  2. Skin irritation is common
    1. Local erythema
    2. Skin peeling
    3. Skin dryness
    4. Pruritus
    5. Burning

VI. Disadvantages

  1. Resistance develops in 25% of patients within 6 months
    1. Use in combination with Benzoyl Peroxide (e.g. Benzamycin or seperate preparations)
