II. Preparation

  1. Topical Antiseptic
    1. Chlorhexidine solution
  2. Anesthetic
    1. Topical benzocaine 20% gel
    2. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 25 mg tablet
      1. Patient can suck on tablet and allow it to dissolve in mouth (provides Local Anesthetic effect)
    3. Bupivicaine 0.25% with Epinephrine 1.7 ml glass cylindrical cartridges (disposable)
      1. Alternative: 10 cc syringe 27 gauge needle 2-3 cc Bupivacaine 0.25% with Epinephrine
    4. Anesthetic cartridge holder with needle (disposable)
    5. Control syringe plunger (do not throw out)
  3. Temporary filling
    1. Dental cements (choose at least one)
      1. Zinc Oxide Cement (e.g. Temrex) powder and liquid
      2. Calcium hydroxide base and catalyst
      3. Glass ionomer powder and liquid
    2. Dental spatula (Stainless steel)
    3. Polymer paper pad (to mix cement)
  4. Miscellaneous
    1. Dry Socket paste
    2. Dental roll gauze
