- Skin barrier protection (Skin Lubricants)

- Apply immediately after patting dry from bathing
- Skin Lubricant lotions (e.g. Lubriderm)
- Apply lotion frequently throughout the day
- Avoid lotions with Alcohol (drying)
- Skin Lubricant creams or oils (Eucerin or Vaseline)
- Bedtime application
- Severe cases
- Management: "Do not bath, Soak!"
- Add Bath Emollients (Bath Oils)
- Limit soap use (Causes skin drying)
- Use a Mild Soap for general skin areas 2 times weekly

- Examples: Unscented Dove or Cetaphil Skin Cleanser
- Daily use of soap only in groin or axilla
- Spare legs, arms, and torso
- Decrease bath frequency, length, and temperature
- Limit bathing to a brief, tepid bath
- Immediately after bath:
- Briefly pat dry
- Apply skin barrier protection (Skin Lubricant)
- Management: Topical Agents
- Alpha-Hydroxy acid Moisturizers (e.g. Eucerin Plus)
- Apply after warm water soaks
- Topical Corticosteroid ointment (triamcinolone for 4-5 days)
- Indications: Visible pink or red dermatitis
- Management: Dyshidrotic Eczema of hands
- Apply Moisturizing Lotions to hands 10-20 times daily
- Apply petroleum jelly at bedtime under over-glove
- Cotton liner with Vinyl over-glove for hand washing
- Allerderm (Hypoallergenic glove supplier)
- Moderate to severe exacerbations
- Continue protocol above
- Add 2 weeks of a moderate to high potency Topical Corticosteroid
- If need to repeat Corticosteroids, give at least 1 week break before reusing
