Event Monitor

Aka: Event Monitor, Transtelephonic Event Monitor
  1. Indications: Sporadic symptomatic episodes
    1. Syncope or near Syncope
    2. Palpitations
  2. Description
    1. Continuous EKG loop recorder worn by patient
    2. Patient pushes button on recorder when symptoms occur
    3. Event Monitor only saves recording when button pushed
      1. Records a few minutes before and after event
      2. Usually may record up to 4 episodes
    4. Recordings transmitted via phone to lab for analysis
  3. Disadvantages
    1. Does not save tracings if arrhythmia is asymptomatic
